Lions sign veteran TE Levine Toilolo

The Lions are adding another veteran tight end to the roster, according to multiple reports, agreeing to terms with Levine Toilolo. He had visited with the team last week.

A fourth-round pick out of Stanford in 2013, Toilolo has spent his entire five-year career with the Atlanta Falcons. The 6-foot-8, 265-pounder had his most productive season in 2014, catching 31 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns.

Give Manziel credit: It took him a couple years, but he finally seems to be taking the idea of a career in professional football seriously. Better late than never, I suppose. I’m sure it was a bit surreal returning to Texas A&M pro day four years after he did the same thing prior to the Browns selecting him 22nd overall. NFL Network’s James Palmer was in attendance at Manziel’s 2014 pro day, and he told me it remains one of the craziest events he’s ever attended. A DJ was spinning records, President George H.W. Bush made a surprise cameo and Manziel was absolutely lights out — a ball never touched the turf.

This second go-around was a far more low-key affair, and that’s clearly for the best, given the circumstances. And to answer your question: No, I don’t think he’s on a roster this year, but that doesn’t mean it’s over for JFF. A more realistic path: go to the CFL, do some damage, stay out of trouble (this is super important!) and then see if the NFL is ready to provide the chance to land a backup job somewhere. Remember, he’s still just 25 years old.

A lotta livin’ in that quarter century, of course.

Greg Bedard of Boston Sports Journal reports that things still aren’t completely settled between Belichick, Brady and Kraft even after their meeting. Bedard noted that the hope is that the meeting was a step in the direction.

Given all that we know about the tension that exists between Brady’s trainer Alex Guerrero and the Patriots’ training staff, it’s possible that the issues will never be completely resolved. Brady’s TB12 Sports Therapy Center, which was co-founded by Guerrero, is located just outside Gillette Stadium. Players have reportedly been going there for treatment in increasing numbers, and there have been reports that they are being told to ignore instructions from the team’s training staff in favor of other workout and rehabilitation techniques.nike_broncos_060-500x500
